Richard joins ITAC Industry Roundtable with Minister Rob Moore
October 5-6

ITAC hosted an industry roundtable with Minister of State, Small Business and Tourism, Rob Moore, as well as a number of the province’s leaders in ICT.

The roundtable aimed to facilitate a discussion between the NB ICT industry and Canada’s federal government of how small- to mid-sized businesses based outside of Ontario can best do business with the federal government.  Senior executives from several technology companies based in Saint John, Fredericton, Moncton and Halifax attended, as well as a number of ITAC representatives including past ITAC Chair, Tom Turchet of IBM, Morgan Elliott of Research in Motion (RIM), and ITAC President/CEO, Bernard Courtois were part of the group.

SHIFT and National Resources Canada host energy management workshop

In collaboration with National Resources Canada, SHIFT hosted a one day workshop titled 'Dollar to $ense' at Hilton Hotel, Saint John today. Participants included SHIFT team, customers, partners and other guests.

Since 1997, over 15,000 representatives of Industrial, Commercial and Institutional organization from across Canada have enrolled in the 'Dollar to $ense' workshops offered by Natural Resources Canada's Office of Energy Efficiency.

The workshop is designed to help organizations with energy saving education and advices to:

  • lower operating and production costs
  • improve competitive position
  • reduce GHG emissions
  • increase operational efficiency and
  • create a better work environment

In the closing remark Wei Zhang, the Director of Product Development said that SHIFT was very happy to bring this unique opportunity to our customers and partners. He also promised to host more of this kind of workshops in the future.

In a press conference today Saint John MP Rodney Weston joined Richard Jones, President & CEO of SHIFT Energy and Bob Justason of Mariner Partners  to highlight the company’s plans for the development of an innovative energy management system and the Government of Canada’s support for the initiative.

The Government of Canada, through ACOA and the National Research Council (NRC), contributed over $285,575 towards the development of SHIFT's Energy Management Solution. This investment will help SHIFT strengthen its R&D capacity, create skilled jobs and open up new markets.

After the announcement, they answered questions to the journalists, guests and customers.

Richard receives KIRA 'Industry Person of the Year' award
May 6

'The Industry Person of the Year' is awarded to recognize an individual who has gone above and beyond in the leadership and direction of IT. Richard was selected for this prestigious award for the contributions he made to the NB ICT industry - in building its presence in the IT world.

The 2010 KIRA Awards ceremony was held at the Delta Fredericton on Thursday, May 6, 2010. Pictures of the grand event are available here.

SHIFT and C&E at Moncton MEET show
May 5-6

MEET (Mechanical Electrical Electronic Technology) returns to Moncton for its 19th edition, May 5-6, 2010. This show has become Atlantic Canada’s most inclusive event, giving visitors a unique opportunity to network and compare the latest products and services available to the industry to date.

SHIFT will be sharing booth no. 399 with Controls & Equipment to showcase our Energy Management solutions including the integration of building controls and automation technologies available from C&E.
Richard Speaks at SMARTGRID panel

Facilitated by American Productivity and Quality Center, the SMARTGRID summit was a huge event attracting 110 industry players in Saint John.

To set the stage for establishing a shared vision and roadmap for smart grid, there were three panel discussions during summit. The objectives for each panel discussion was to provide insights from three critical perspectives that will drive our smart grid success -utilities, consumers, and technology providers.

Richard was representing SHIFT Energy in the Consumer Panel.

Energy Management Dashboard Demo launched
March 1

The dashboard will enable businesses effectively manage their energy consumption.The dashboard  integrates device-level energy monitoring, proprietary web-based data analysis algorithms and information feedback, and alternate energy systems to provide an energy management solution.

The final version of the dashboard will soon be released.
SHIFT sponsors CIPS Women in IT contest

Women in IT events are hosted around the country in an effort to increase enrollment of females in science and technology.  Information Communication Technology (ICT) is used in all businesses, and a shortage of educated and trained employees will potentially impact innovation and growth of New Brunswick businesses.The contest is sponsored by the Canadian Information Processing Society (CIPS) Loyalist, in partnership with SHIFT Energy with support from xwave and the University of New Brunswick, Saint John.
